Je suis devenu fou à dix-sept ans. Je l'étais peut-être déjà avant, mais c'est là que ça s'est déclaré, que la psychose a pris le dessus et que la paranoïa m'a englouti. La vie semblait pourtant me sourire. Je commençais le cégep, j'avais un bon emploi et je venais d'emménager avec mon meilleur ami, à deux pas des résidences où ma blonde habitait. C'était le bonheur, la liberté totale ! Sauf que ça n'a pas duré.
Le stress des études, le travail qui prenait trop de place, les nuits blanches, l'alcool, le pot... Quelque chose s'est rompu à l'intérieur de ma tête. Mon esprit s'est détraqué. Je me suis mis à voir des ombres, à entendre des voix, à m'imaginer qu'on me voulait du mal... J'aurais dû écouter mes amis et aller me faire soigner. À la place, j'ai attendu qu'il soit trop tard. Je me suis battu contre ma folie et j'ai perdu.
La psychose est un trouble mental grave qui se manifeste par une perte de contact avec la réalité. Les personnes qui en sont atteintes éprouvent beaucoup de difficultés à distinguer ce qui est vrai de ce qui ne l'est pas. On estime que de 4 à 5% des jeunes connaîtront un épisode psychotique. Heureusement, avec les bons traitements, la majorité d'entre eux s'en sortiront.
